Sunn O))) & Earth - Angel Coma [Split] (2006)

Yes, yes it is, two legendary Drone bands playing together, the product of this is awesomeness, in short words, but yes the two tracks of this release are very good, the best from Earth, the best from Sunn O))), very fucking recommended if you like the genre...

Band: Earth & Sunn O)))
Disc: Angel Coma
Year: 2006
Country: USA, USA/France
Genre: Drone, Drone/Doom/Black Metal

Sunn O))) - Black One (2005)

Another important band in this genre, actually one of the most popular, but not in the bad way, and this is one of the best releases of this band that mix Drone with Black Metal, with a lot of colaborations from another awesome bands, such as Xasthur's member Malefic, Joe Preston from Melvins and Earth etc.., maybe a little bit different, but quite good indeed, this band works with less melodies or riffs, less than Earth...

Earth - Extra Capsular Extraction (1991)

Great band, i mean, is an AWESOME band, the pioneers of Drone, they finally built the genre, the concept of Drone started with this band, and this is the first EP, featuring in vocals, the famous/infamous Kurt Cobain, that's what most people don't know, they only know him for Nirvana, but he actually did a casting in Melvins, he wanted to be in Melvins, but he couldn't be, also he was going to be in Earth, but finally he created Nirvana, the truth is, he did vocals in the songs of this EP, it sounds good, and this is one of the best releases of this legendary Drone band, this is truly the big bang of Drone, and still one of the best bands of the genre, even they've a new full length released this year... I'm sure you can handle long songs, i believe you can, but if not, you can't appreciate Drone...

Band: Earth
Disc: Extra Capsular Extraction

Mara - The Underground [DEMO] (2011)

Only few bands like this one make good Drone/Black Metal, both extreme genres, both actually kind of tabu in the general metal scene, mostly due to ignorance, or faggotry, the truth is, that this is a very good band, and this is the last demo of this band and i think is splited up, this band comes from the US making very good music, actually, for being a demo, is very good produced and it makes it better just because if this had a worst production, it'll be just pure noise, and noise=/=drone in my opinion, so enjoy pessimism and this repetitive drone madness...

Band: Mara
Disc: The Underground
Year: 2011
Country: USA
Genre: Ambient/Drone/Black Metal

Fregoli Delusion - Fregoli Delusion [DEMO] (2011)

New project featuring members of the band Jane Doe Drowned and Vėžys, a lithuanian black/doom project with that opportune touch of experimentation, very good indeed, the underground sound doesn't take the remarcable doom sound, almost reaching the funeral/doom influence i must say, and the fregoli delusion is "a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise." I recommend it, if you like funeral/doom, mixing clean and harsh vocals...

Band: Fregoli Delusion
Disc: Selftitled
Year: 2011
Country: Lithuania
Genre: Experimental Black/Doom Metal

The Melvins.

I decided to do this series of posts just because i like a lot Drone music, and how can i start posting Drone without mention the starters of all, The Melvins.

The Melvins, the beginning, the fuck genesis of  Drone and Sludge, some people call those subgenres of doom, some people think those genres are completely dissociated of Doom Metal, i think they can be mixed, but Drone is another genre, without Doom in it, Sludge, most of Sludge bands (for not saying all the bands) also play Doom or Doom influenced, this band in particular, changed their style in every release, from Doom to Stoner to general Metal to Punk Rock, but only few of their releases influenced the creation of this two Sub genres of extreme music (yes extreme music, i don't consider extreme music only thrash, doom, death and black, i think extreme genres, those who lack of limits and boundaries, those are extreme, i.e. Drone.) so this band, having lyrically themes almost every random shit you can imagine, it just lacks of pattern, that just adds interest in my opinion.

In this time i will only post two of their full length releases,  i think two releases that influenced the creation of Drone and Sludge.

The Melvins - Houdini (1993)

Cute cover huh?, believe me, if you like doom, you'll like this, and if you wanna know the beginning of those beloved subgenres of music, listen to this.

Band: The Melvins
Disc: Houdini

Adramalech - Drawing The Nature (2011)

The new release of this Georgian band. is quite amazing i must say, is more mature than the other releases ( i'm not saying that the other releases are bad or something) but this is more ambient influenced, more atmospheric and sad, they focus on this sad naturalist feeling common in the genre, but they do it well, this is one of the best releases of this year in my opinion, just because i like ambient naturalist music, depressive, very very melancholic.

 Band: Adramalech
Disc: Drawing The Nature
Year: 2011
Country: Georgia
Genre: Ambient/Black Metal

Vinterväsen - Ulvens Söner (2011)

This is a grateful surprise, this band comes from Sweden doing awesome underground black metal, no, seriously, is very good, the lyrics are about cultural preservation and the ancestral germanic culture and sorcery, great for fans of old Darkthrone, enjoy..

Galaktik Cancer Squad - Eroberer (2011)

Although i'm really, really skeptical about progressive/black metal, i really don't like progressive, but this is different, i don't know but it has another feeling that captures all my attention, and makes me trip, like a few bands do, it has keyboards, it has everything but vocals, but you know? is good that way, is perfect, sometimes the vocals just ruin the music, this is very space influenced too, space ambient influence is present and fits very well to the music, nothing else can be said, just sit and listen carefully, so you can appreciate such a masterpiece.

Band: Galaktik Cancer Squad
Disc: Eroberer
Year: 2011
Country: Germany
Genre: Progressive/Black Metal

First Full length of this awesome band

Band: Evoken
Disc: Embrace The Emptiness
Year: 1998

The Howling Void - Megaliths Of The Abyss (2009)

American funeral doom project, very symphonic but that just adds the right atmosphere to the music, lay down, look at the sky, behold the neverending cicle of the life, the faith just don't exist, you and this moment are real. The best recipe to monotony, i really recommend this band to all funeral doom fans, and if you like Summoning, you'll love this.

Band: The Howling Void
Disc: Megaliths Of The Abyss
Year: 2009

Band: Ahab
Disc: The Call Of The Wretched Sea
Year: 2006
Country: Germany
Genre: 2006

Ahab - The Divinity Of Oceans (2009)

Nautic, slow, yes, like a fucking funeral in a stormy neverending ocean, that's how i would describe this band, although some people label them as a sort of commercial doom metal, due in part of the label Napalm Records, but i give a flying fuck actually, this is one of the best funeral doom bands ever (almost all funeral doom bands are awesome, another good point of this subgenre), the truth is, that this sounds with an obvious death metal influence which is not bad at all, i would say that this death metal influence takes all the melancholic and sad feeling of the tracks, because it doesn't sound like perpetual sadness or something (very common in funeral doom), but sounds more slow and very fucking heavy, angry and desperate, leading to utter madness if you will, they tell us the story of the braves oceans and also of the famous book of Herman Melville "Moby Dick" a whale hunter, i'm sure it doesn't need any review, one of the best works ever made, an epic book, so if you like Tolkien or Lovecraft you'll love this book, and if you like bands that inspire their lyrical themes in Tolkien or Lovecraft, you'll also love this band. Simply powerful, perfect for a sunny day, i know you hate sunny days as much as i do...

Band: Ahab
Disc:  The Divinity Of Oceans
Year: 2009
Country: Germany
Genre: Funeral Doom Metal
