The Howling Void - Megaliths Of The Abyss (2009)

American funeral doom project, very symphonic but that just adds the right atmosphere to the music, lay down, look at the sky, behold the neverending cicle of the life, the faith just don't exist, you and this moment are real. The best recipe to monotony, i really recommend this band to all funeral doom fans, and if you like Summoning, you'll love this.

Band: The Howling Void

Ahab - The Divinity Of Oceans (2009)

Nautic, slow, yes, like a fucking funeral in a stormy neverending ocean, that's how i would describe this band, although some people label them as a sort of commercial doom metal, due in part of the label Napalm Records, but i give a flying fuck actually, this is one of the best funeral doom bands ever (almost all funeral doom bands are awesome, another good point of this subgenre), the truth is, that this sounds with an obvious death metal influence which is not bad at all, i would say that this death metal influence takes all the melancholic and sad feeling of the tracks, because it doesn't sound like perpetual sadness or something (very common in funeral doom), but sounds more slow and very fucking heavy, angry and desperate, leading to utter madness if you will, they tell us the story of the braves oceans and also of the famous book of Herman Melville "Moby Dick" a whale hunter, i'm sure it doesn't need any review, one of the best works ever made, an epic book, so if you like Tolkien or Lovecraft you'll love this book, and if you like bands that inspire their lyrical themes in Tolkien or Lovecraft, you'll also love this band. Simply powerful, perfect for a sunny day, i know you hate sunny days as much as i do...

Evoken - Antithesis Of Light (2005)

About this album there's no much to say, you can check metallum and see that this release have 11 reviews, and the average percentage is 97% if that's not enough for you i'll tell you that is a good release, very good, sometimes reminds me Blut Aus Nord i don't know why, but it does, but hey wait, something is missing here, what would be? oh yes i know, and it's just annoying, is too fast to be Funeral, hey dont' missunderstand me, this is great, but is "Funeral Doom/Death Metal" and i think that's why i think is more fast, i wouldn't say is Funeral in the whole sense of the world, but is doom, wi-thout doubt is awesome doom death metal... you can listen it and make your own conclusions.

Band: Evoken

Thergothon - Stream From The Heavens (1994)

The first full length, the second release and the last album of the band, then they split up, this is another jewel of funeral doom, more well produced and also they add keyboards, sounds great and i really recommend this!

Band: Thergothon
Disc: Stream From Heavens
Year: 1994
Country: Finland
Genre: Funeral Doom Metal

Mistress Of The Dead - White Roses, White Coffin (2008)

This is another Funeral Doom metal band, is really good and is from Czech Republic, this is a good but not their best release to me, is very Atmospheric, like an Ambient/Funeral Doom or something like that, very good actually....

Band: Mistress Of The Dead
Disc: White Roses, White Coffin
Year: 2008
Country: Czech Republic
Genre: Funeral Doom Metal

Skepticism - Stormcrowfleet (1995)

Actually is almost imposible to say what release is the best of this band, because almost all releases are just amazing, so i'll say that this is just legendary and destructive Funeral Doom metal, and one of the best releases of the genre too, the quality of the file is not awesome, so if you want more quality BUY THE ORIGINAL!.

Band: Skepticism
Disc: Stormcrowfleet
Year: 1995
Country: Finland
Genre: Funeral/Doom Metal

Skepticism - Alloy (2008)

Another fathers of the great genre of extreme Doom Metal!, they are from Finland too, we can say that the Beginning of Funeral Doom Metal lies in Finland so we must thank them! and also they are active since 1991 but this was the last release of the band, also they use Keyboards and this was another added instrument that Thergothon didn't use, so that actually add a very sad and painful atmosphere to the music.

This is slow, painful, sad, maddening, claustrophobic music... Just Perfect.. And if you like bands like Shape Of Despair you must try this, you'll be fascinated..

Band: Skepticism
Disc: Alloy
Year: 2008
Country: Finland
Genre: Funeral/Doom Metal

Thergothon - Fhtagn-nagh Yog-Sothoth (1991)

The big bang of the awesome genre (or maybe sub genre) that a lot of black metal fans do love, the Funeral Doom Metal, starts with this finnish band, this three members of this legendary band, had the courage and the originality to start a genre, more brutal and painful doom, more than the mainstream and commercial doom, this is beyond that, this is just anti human!, is like listen to Mayhem with the legendary line-up, or the first demos of burzum... Just epic, and being honest i've to say that sadly i can't find and can't purchase this particular demo... Shit...

Anyway, if you really like bands like Ea and Shape Of Despair and that stuff, you must listen to this! is the Genesis of Funeral doom, it's mandatory!!

Band: Thergothon
Disc: Fhtagn-nagh Yog-Sothoth
Year: 1991
Country: Finland
Genre: Funeral Doom Metal

Ea - Ea Taesse (2006)

I know i don't use to post funeral doom in the blog (in fact, i never did) but this is a band that comes from russia and certainly they deserve more attention and respect, some says that this is average funeral doom, standard sound, but it is not correct, because the lyrics of this band are made in a dead language, and are about sacred ancient texts, the sound it's fucking crushing good, kinda depressive...
