Khanate - Khanate (2001)

I know i know... i know you're thinking "fuck, i don't even like drone, why this guy post more and more?!?" it's because, you just need time to appreciate such a genre like this, and if you do right now, congratulations, you're fucked, your mind is wide open, Black Metal is not the last boundary in music like most people think, just when you think music can't get weirder, you found more sick shit... This time i bring to you, Khanate, a sick, sick american band, and when i mean sick i mean bizarre and pretty good, just like being kidnapped by a murderer, this is their first full length and actually the best of the band in my opinion.. i don't want to talk more bullshit, so enjoy...

Nadja - Bliss Torn From Emptiness (2005)

One of those obligatory releases, just you must have it, is a 48 min track, hard shit, more industrial influenced, is like listening to a hardest version of Mort by Blut Aus Nord, i would say is the masterpiece of this band, the very best if you liked "Touched" you'll love this...

Disc: Bliss Torn From Emptiness

Country: Canada
Genre: Drone/Industrial

Asva - Futurists Against The Ocean (2005)

Good, hard stuff if you don't like drone, but very good indeed, isn't better than "What You Don't Know Is Frontier", but still pretty good "Kill The Dog, Tie Them Up, Then Take The Money" is the first and mindblowing song of this album, not necessarily the best, but it gets better, the other tracks "Zaum: Beyonsense" is a whole track only with few notes, just like a Sunn O))) song, but less evil, just Drone, in the pure form of the word and genre, not fancy stuff, not so elaborated, not the best, just for fans of this genre, drone your anger and stress, light a joint, put this in the highest volume, sit, enjoy the vibration, enjoy nothingness.......

Band: Asva
Disc: Futurist Against The Ocean
Year: 2005
Country: USA
Genre: Pure fucking drone...

Earth - HEX; Or Printing In The Infernal Method (2005)

Good stuff, actually one of the best releases of this band, more experimental, more dark and more drone of course, the cover of the release says it all, is like being in an old farm, haunted and creepy, just the way it should be... i don't have to say more...

Band: Earth
Disc: HEX; or printing in the infernal method
Year: 2005

Micromelancolié / Problems That Fix Themselves 'Fractures' split (‏ (2011

I'm not sure how to bring this to you, or how to call it in the first place, i mean, i liked a lot, just because i like experimental music, a lot, is a weird feeling, but i'm very pleased, let's just call this noise/techno/melancholic/experimental music, yes, i think that's a good label to this, i don't know if i'm too ignorant or this is just very different and unusual, the thing is that this is not Drone, this has nothing to do with metal or anything like that, this is noise with some touches of melody and melancholic parts, just random new form of art, and i like it, a lot, is like a soundtrack, for your lives, very good indeed, check this out, if you like musical experiments, this is your chance. Because in the end we all decided to listen to weird music, listen to music socially rejected, we are the rats in this society, we are few and smart, unique and powerful, we are the wolves... no one can't refuse this concept..

Band: Micromelancolié/Problems That Fix Themselves
Disc: Fractures (Split)
Year: 2011
Country: USA
Genre: Experimental.

The Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments (1986)

The first official release of this awesome band, i did a review of two releases some time ago, but this is fucking obligatory if you liked those releases, just because this is the very first release and it's a full length and also is a compilation of random old school punk influenced songs all unique and original, just like the band, and again, if you liked them, you should totally check this out...

Band: The Melvins
Disc: Gluey Porch Treatments
Year: 1986
Country: USA
Genre: this particular release is all old school punk...

Nadja - Touched (2007)

I don't feel like doing a review right now.. it's curious because some people love my reviews, some people hate it, i don't think i'm good at it anyways, this is another great band in the small and fogotten genre of Drone, very good, different only because they decided not to do a slow drone like Sunn O))) they're more like Earth in my point of view... they're like a darker and gloomy version of the bests songs of Earth..

Band: Nadja
Disc: Touched (Re-recorded)
Year: 2007
Country: Canada
Genre: Drone Ambient/Doom Metal}

Asva - What You Don't Know Is Frontier (2008)

Without doubt, a fucking masterpiece in Drone, forget about the endless dark and gloomy track, the powerful amplifiers now are at the mercy of the spiritual ritualistic music, suddenly there's no such thing as the society, suddenly you're lost in an endless rainforest, your mind is reaching happiness, yes, happiness, abandon all hope, you're now a spirit, free, shapeless, boneless, now you're matter, you are the master of your own self, epic, melancholic and very very ritualistic, this is the pure definition of this release.. The members of this band are very experimented, hey have a lot experience in this genre, maybe that's why this sounds so fucking wonderful.

Don't start listening this release in order, you should always start with the track "A Game In Hell, Hard Work In Heaven", and if that single track doesn't changes your whole life, then you don't like drone, simple, but effective, then of course you can listen the whole release, in any order, the point is that i started in this genre with this release (and, of course, Black One of Sunn O))).), if i were a good reviewer, i would give to this a fucking 200/10, this is beyond labels and qualifications, this is Asva folks....

Band: Asva
Disc: What You Don't Know Is Frontier
Year: 2008
Country: USA
Genre: Drone/Doom Metal

Boris - Absolutego (1996)

Holy shit, you need a trip?. Sometimes i envy japanese people, they're just in some way perfect, weird, but every single shit that comes to the western society is pure gold, and those things that stays in Japan are in Japan only because we are not ready for such perfection, in this case this Drone/Psychedelic/Stoner/Doom/Sludge/Ambient/Noise/Dream Pop/Rock band, named Boris after the release of the CD Bullhead of The Melvins, there is a track named "Boris"..

Let's talk about this album, is like just the soundtrack for a bad trip in acid or meth, like Sunn O))), you just stay staring at the sky with your mouth open dreaming about anything, the meaning of life actually means something to you after this (because in my case, life is meaningless, if you think life has some meaning, then this release will make you think the opposite, welcome to nihilism bro, land of the free, home of the brave..),
is a fucking hour long, a fucking hour of noise and drone, it actually change the way you see your life and reality, it's Boris people, it's Japan, something must happen, if you wanted a radical change, this is it, if you liked Drone, Sunn O))) and others, this is the next level towards madness and ilumination, this is the ultimate, this is the miracle of the cosmic gods made through music, take it or leave it.

Fucking Protip: Listen to it, all, the whole track, without interruptions, sit, take drugs or whatever, and listen to this 01:05:34  masterpiece..

Tombstalker - Tombstalker [EP] (2011)

The latest release of this american band, very good indeed, with only 4 tracks full of aggression, this time not so  "blackish" but more death influenced, the same thrash tempo. fast and savage, this is more like an evolution of the band if you will, not bad at all.

Band: Tombstalker
Disc: Tombstalker
Year: 2011
Country: USA
Genre: Thrash/Black/Death Metal

Sunn O))) & Earth - Angel Coma [Split] (2006)

Yes, yes it is, two legendary Drone bands playing together, the product of this is awesomeness, in short words, but yes the two tracks of this release are very good, the best from Earth, the best from Sunn O))), very fucking recommended if you like the genre...

Band: Earth & Sunn O)))
Disc: Angel Coma
Year: 2006
Country: USA, USA/France
Genre: Drone, Drone/Doom/Black Metal

Sunn O))) - Black One (2005)

Another important band in this genre, actually one of the most popular, but not in the bad way, and this is one of the best releases of this band that mix Drone with Black Metal, with a lot of colaborations from another awesome bands, such as Xasthur's member Malefic, Joe Preston from Melvins and Earth etc.., maybe a little bit different, but quite good indeed, this band works with less melodies or riffs, less than Earth...

Band: Sunn O)))

Earth - Extra Capsular Extraction (1991)

Great band, i mean, is an AWESOME band, the pioneers of Drone, they finally built the genre, the concept of Drone started with this band, and this is the first EP, featuring in vocals, the famous/infamous Kurt Cobain, that's what most people don't know, they only know him for Nirvana, but he actually did a casting in Melvins, he wanted to be in Melvins, but he couldn't be, also he was going to be in Earth, but finally he created Nirvana, the truth is, he did vocals in the songs of this EP, it sounds good, and this is one of the best releases of this legendary Drone band, this is truly the big bang of Drone, and still one of the best bands of the genre, even they've a new full length released this year... I'm sure you can handle long songs, i believe you can, but if not, you can't appreciate Drone...

Band: Earth
Disc: Extra Capsular Extraction
Year: 1991
Country: USA

Mara - The Underground [DEMO] (2011)

Only few bands like this one make good Drone/Black Metal, both extreme genres, both actually kind of tabu in the general metal scene, mostly due to ignorance, or faggotry, the truth is, that this is a very good band, and this is the last demo of this band and i think is splited up, this band comes from the US making very good music, actually, for being a demo, is very good produced and it makes it better just because if this had a worst production, it'll be just pure noise, and noise=/=drone in my opinion, so enjoy pessimism and this repetitive drone madness...

Band: Mara
Disc: The Underground
Year: 2011
Country: USA
Genre: Ambient/Drone/Black Metal

Fregoli Delusion - Fregoli Delusion [DEMO] (2011)

New project featuring members of the band Jane Doe Drowned and Vėžys, a lithuanian black/doom project with that opportune touch of experimentation, very good indeed, the underground sound doesn't take the remarcable doom sound, almost reaching the funeral/doom influence i must say, and the fregoli delusion is "a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise." I recommend it, if you like funeral/doom, mixing clean and harsh vocals...

Band: Fregoli Delusion
Disc: Selftitled
Year: 2011
Country: Lithuania
Genre: Experimental Black/Doom Metal

The Melvins.

I decided to do this series of posts just because i like a lot Drone music, and how can i start posting Drone without mention the starters of all, The Melvins.

The Melvins, the beginning, the fuck genesis of  Drone and Sludge, some people call those subgenres of doom, some people think those genres are completely dissociated of Doom Metal, i think they can be mixed, but Drone is another genre, without Doom in it, Sludge, most of Sludge bands (for not saying all the bands) also play Doom or Doom influenced, this band in particular, changed their style in every release, from Doom to Stoner to general Metal to Punk Rock, but only few of their releases influenced the creation of this two Sub genres of extreme music (yes extreme music, i don't consider extreme music only thrash, doom, death and black, i think extreme genres, those who lack of limits and boundaries, those are extreme, i.e. Drone.) so this band, having lyrically themes almost every random shit you can imagine, it just lacks of pattern, that just adds interest in my opinion.

In this time i will only post two of their full length releases,  i think two releases that influenced the creation of Drone and Sludge.

The Melvins - Houdini (1993)

Cute cover huh?, believe me, if you like doom, you'll like this, and if you wanna know the beginning of those beloved subgenres of music, listen to this.

Band: The Melvins
Disc: Houdini
Year: 1993

The Melvins - Stoner Witch (1994)

Another great release, mostly stoner influenced, doom and shit, just listen.

Obviously these are not the only releases of this band, i will post some of them later, also some Drone of course, and if you like raw black metal only and true madness and that shit, step away, you'll hate this if you're narrow minded and shit...

Adramalech - Drawing The Nature (2011)

The new release of this Georgian band. is quite amazing i must say, is more mature than the other releases ( i'm not saying that the other releases are bad or something) but this is more ambient influenced, more atmospheric and sad, they focus on this sad naturalist feeling common in the genre, but they do it well, this is one of the best releases of this year in my opinion, just because i like ambient naturalist music, depressive, very very melancholic.

 Band: Adramalech
Disc: Drawing The Nature
Year: 2011
Country: Georgia
Genre: Ambient/Black Metal

Vinterväsen - Ulvens Söner (2011)

This is a grateful surprise, this band comes from Sweden doing awesome underground black metal, no, seriously, is very good, the lyrics are about cultural preservation and the ancestral germanic culture and sorcery, great for fans of old Darkthrone, enjoy..

Band: Vinterväsen
Disc: Ulvens Söner

Galaktik Cancer Squad - Eroberer (2011)

Although i'm really, really skeptical about progressive/black metal, i really don't like progressive, but this is different, i don't know but it has another feeling that captures all my attention, and makes me trip, like a few bands do, it has keyboards, it has everything but vocals, but you know? is good that way, is perfect, sometimes the vocals just ruin the music, this is very space influenced too, space ambient influence is present and fits very well to the music, nothing else can be said, just sit and listen carefully, so you can appreciate such a masterpiece.

Band: Galaktik Cancer Squad
Disc: Eroberer
Year: 2011
Country: Germany
Genre: Progressive/Black Metal

First Full length of this awesome band

Band: Evoken
Disc: Embrace The Emptiness
Year: 1998
Country: USA
Genre: Funeral/Doom Metal

The Howling Void - Megaliths Of The Abyss (2009)

American funeral doom project, very symphonic but that just adds the right atmosphere to the music, lay down, look at the sky, behold the neverending cicle of the life, the faith just don't exist, you and this moment are real. The best recipe to monotony, i really recommend this band to all funeral doom fans, and if you like Summoning, you'll love this.

Band: The Howling Void
Disc: Megaliths Of The Abyss
Year: 2009
Country: USA
Genre: Funeral/Doom Metal

Band: Ahab
Disc: The Call Of The Wretched Sea
Year: 2006
Country: Germany
Genre: 2006

Ahab - The Divinity Of Oceans (2009)

Nautic, slow, yes, like a fucking funeral in a stormy neverending ocean, that's how i would describe this band, although some people label them as a sort of commercial doom metal, due in part of the label Napalm Records, but i give a flying fuck actually, this is one of the best funeral doom bands ever (almost all funeral doom bands are awesome, another good point of this subgenre), the truth is, that this sounds with an obvious death metal influence which is not bad at all, i would say that this death metal influence takes all the melancholic and sad feeling of the tracks, because it doesn't sound like perpetual sadness or something (very common in funeral doom), but sounds more slow and very fucking heavy, angry and desperate, leading to utter madness if you will, they tell us the story of the braves oceans and also of the famous book of Herman Melville "Moby Dick" a whale hunter, i'm sure it doesn't need any review, one of the best works ever made, an epic book, so if you like Tolkien or Lovecraft you'll love this book, and if you like bands that inspire their lyrical themes in Tolkien or Lovecraft, you'll also love this band. Simply powerful, perfect for a sunny day, i know you hate sunny days as much as i do...

Band: Ahab
Disc:  The Divinity Of Oceans
Year: 2009
Country: Germany
Genre: Funeral Doom Metal

Acid King - III (2005)

Suddenly i have this strange feeling and need to post some sludge stoner releases, don't know why, THC maybe, who knows, what i know is that this is a fucking awesome band, with an awesome singer, hypnotizing, slow, painful and very very distorted, i don't know but i always relate sludge, funeral doom, and stoner with hot days, sunny but cloudy, fucking awesome, isn't it? i'm just gonna say that this worth it a lot if you like sludge doom without growls, but a beautiful women singing endless songs into the blurry deep space, just lay down, do drugs, and trip fuck... TRIP!

Band: Acid King
Disc: III
Year: 2005

Stabat - Corpos do Silenco Disforme em Conjuração e Consumação de Tortura (2011)

The fourth demo of this duo band from brazil, if you've listened to the other demos of this band, and you like underground atmospheric black metal, raw, and very hateful, is how i would describe this work, which is not bad at all i would say, in fact, is too short to me, but well, i really recommend this release to those who like this subgenre, like the old releases of Burzum, or Aäkon Këëtrëh....

Band: Stabat
Disc:  Corpos do Silenco Disforme em Conjuração e Consumação de Tortura

Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin - Compilation.

One of the best piano composers of all time, one of my favorites, and i highly recommend this compilation...

Evil - Raw Coldness [Compilation] (2008)

Band: Evil
Disc: Raw Coldness
Year: 2008
Country: Brazil
Genre: NSBM

Evil - Hammerstorm (2009)

I've heard some rumours, that they distanced from NS or extreme political ideologies, that they're not members of PF anymnore, who knows, maybe it's true, maybe not, what is a real fact is that they're awesome in the genre, yes is NSBM, this is a full length, not the best though but really good and powerful, also is good to emphasize the fact that they're brazilian, is good to know that the south american scene is still alive and loyal to the original beliefs, without being repetitive and annoying, like some bands i know...

Band: Evil
Disc: Hammerstorm
Year: 2009
Country: Brazil
Genre: NSBM

Ludwig Van Beethoven - 9th Symphony.

Deafest - Through Wood And Fog (2011)

This year has not ended yet folks, there's a lot of material that will be released and enjoyed, and this is a grateful surprise, this is an EP, and i really liked this, the three full lengths of this band are good, but it seems that the band has matured, this is less underground, but more melancholic and almost reaching the "depressive black metal" label, which is the case of the first track "Fog Rolls Down The Slopes" starting with a calm feeling and the sound of the night, followed by the slow drums, and then a guitar intro towards the outcome of the song, peaceful i would say, then it turns more into that Black Metal riff and feeling, fast and powerful, of course it changes, and then we can listen that depressive riff (in my opinion, this is what i would label as "depressive"), perfect song to give us the first impression of this release, the track lasts 6:22, is an average time for a song and its perfect that way, you'll be satisfied with this, i can assure that, this is what i expected from the band, this is what i was looking for actually, is hard to find good new bands, good releases as well, but when you find it, you feel totally pleased.

Let's move to the 2nd track called "Over The Ridge", and i must say is different, not in a bad way, i liked, all the song is just awesome, seriously, it start with a chill guitar and some drums, then the electric guitar starts with the same riff of the beginning, this is in my opinion the track that marks this EP as "awesome" and almost a masterpiece, although this has 3 tracks, this will not disappoint you, the only thing i didn't like of this EP, is that it only has 3 tracks and isn't more longer, because it should be, but every good thing in the world is short and last only a few moments, does that makes life a piece of shit? maybe.

And then we have the 3rd track, "Rock Spires Above The Trees" is the longest track of the EP, at first it sounds a little bit average and not so surprising, but then you can notice that this changes and becomes more surreal and melancholic, although this is the longest track of the EP, is not as solid as the other two, this is more calm in some parts and with the same riff, doesn't mean that is a bad track, no, it's still enjoyable.

In conclusion i would give this album a 85% for being very good, worth checking out and support the band as well!

Niccolò Paganini - 24 Caprices

It was said during 1807 that this man was possessed by demonic energies, because of his fast, clean technique with the violin, and because he look possessed in the stage during his presentations, also he lived in a perpetual depression, and like many other artists he died because of syphilis, and later tuberculosis..

Franz Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsodies

The Hungarian Rhapsodies are a classic work of Liszt, i highly recommend this material too.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Compilation

It's a compilation of some of his best works, i've more but this is a good example of his work.

Antonín Leopold Dvořák - Simphony nº 9

Awesome, recommended!

Todesstoß - Abwegnis 121 (2010)

This is the definition of surrealism made music, with that touch of neverending suffering and fear, where everything is shapeless, dark, full of real suffering, you can notice that just listening to the first track, this is a germanb band, and they have a lot of material released, active since 2000, madness lurks in every release of this band, that's how i can describe it, schizophrenia, that feeling, you're not alone, your end is near and this is your testament, this actually reminds me the feeling i have while listening to Blut Aus Nord, musically i just can say that this band has a very particular and original way to do this art, underground produiction but without being fuzzy and annoying, and that's just more atractive to the listener, the vocalist of the band is also an actor, isn't common in this genre but is quite curious, later i'll post more of this band.

Deadly Carnage - Sentiero II: Ceneri (2011)

You see, i don't usually post news about a band or that kind of stuf, just because is not requested, but i should do it more often so the leechers can get the fuck off my blog, but this is an exception, and here we have a very good Italian Black/Doom Metal band, with members of bands like "..." (dot dot dot) which is totally awesome, because "..." is one of the best fucking bands that ever existed in the italian scene, and also the world, but lets talk about the album, is actually "modern" Black Metal, but don't misunderstand, as i said before that doesn't mean that this band is bad, not all modern black metal bands are trendy betrayers, that's a common mistake, this band incorporates doom metal and actually fits very well with the whole band, lyrically, original lyrics and that's another good point for the band, is not the same satanic themes, and if a band use philosophy in the lyrics well that's not common and it should be more used, musically, all instruments are well incorporated and synchronized, i actually have no complain about this band, and that's obvious if you realize that some members of the band have experience in the field of black metal, sometimes reminds me All The Cold, or EA.. i'm not talking about a demo, no, this is the second full length of the band, also they have an EP and a Demo, but i recommend you a lot this band, deserves your attention! The album will be released in September of this year in ATMF an italian label (Click HERE to see).

Band: Deadly Carnage
Disc: Sentiero II: Ceneri
Year: Will be released in September of this year
Country: Italy
Genre: Black/Doom Metal (one of the best in this genre, in my opinion)
